Blogger Video Tips?

I wonder if there are any other Blogger users who drop in occassionally. I would like to know how to get embedded videos to display their first frame instead of the black/blank screen. I have searched the Blogger help files but haven't turned up any information that clarifies the situation yet. If you know if that is possible I would be very grateful if you would pass on the secret via the "comment" option. Thanks

Muddying the Waters

There are a couple of sequences that require a bubbling mud effect so I have been experimenting. This set is just a temporary proxy for checking things like reflections, etc. The final models will include suitable bump maps to add a bit of detail to the mud and the colours and lighting should be sorted out by then.

Variations of the same model

In order to save as much time as possible I will be using the same rigged model as a starting point for the various male characters in the story. I am trying to avoid doing a ton of rigging and weighting and this works well for me. Most of these guys are on screen for no more than a few seconds. I have a family to model next.

Charlie

A slight deviation from the thumbnail sketch for this character but he will do for the moment.

Man "A" stretches his vocal chords

This character will be narrating...eventually.

The animation is completely naff. It is just a looping action and hasn't been set up to emphasize the character's emotions. I'm just exercising the rig and thought I should post a clip here.

I want to make some changes to him but I will wait until I have the other models built.

Long Overdue

Well, this project has been floundering for the past year, I just haven't been able to give it my proper attention. Now I am feeling inspired enough to progress a little further.

I made a start on a few of the characters some time ago and have been working on this one over the past few days:

Here is a WIP in which I am testing a load of things like colour, transparency, fog, glow, and particles:

Not perfect yet but good enough to know that all of the elements will work together. Once I have tweaked the rig and improved the textures I should have everything working well enough to layout the actual sequences that this guy appears in. Oh, I just remembered, I have to do another character first!

It has been far too long.

Unfortunately, as is so often the way with part-time projects such as Fishin', real life obligations have to take priority. It has been many weeks since I last worked on this project and it may be many more before I can pick it up again. This is unfortunate for Myron and myself but I have told him that if someone else wishes to make their own video for his song that he should feel free to let them. It is his dream to see it realised as an animation and I would rather that other versions were made rather than having to wait until I can get back to working on it.

In the meantime I might post some more of my rough character sketches and thumbnails, just to give this blog a little more content.

I will get back to this project as soon as is humanly possible.

A small update

I have nothing much to show at the moment. After an initial burst of enthusiasm, and ideas, I jumped into testing some techniques for the long fly-through that the screenplay calls for as an introduction and establishing shot. The following is just a test of concept and I'm not sure that I will be taking this approach yet:

I'm probably going to go for a mix of 2D and 3D as I think it will allow for a much more interesting look and could even speed up the production.

Another thing that keeps demanding my attention is the idea of adding about a minute of back story to the movie to further establish the characters and add some anticipation for the song. I have done some rough thumbnails to storyboard this addition but am not completely happy with it yet.

I have worked out that there will be at least 18 characters that I will have to model, texture and rig for this, even though most of them will only be seen for a few seconds. Lots to get on with and I hope to start some of them this week.
